Our Story
At Shaffer Dry Cleaning & Laundry, we take pride in our rich history, which dates back to 1969. Our journey began in Cincinnati, Ohio, where our founder, Bill Shaffer, and his business partner, Victor Ray, decided to make a change. After relocating to Tucson, Arizona, we quickly expanded our business to multiple locations and routes, becoming the preferred dry cleaner in the area.
Early Years
In 1969, we opened our first store on the corner of Ajo Way and 12th Ave in Tucson, Arizona. Just three years later, in 1972, we opened our second store on the corner of 1st Ave and Grant Rd. We continued to grow, opening a third store in 1974 on Broadway and Kolb.
Challenges and Triumphs
Tragedy struck in 1975 when our co-founder, Victor Ray, suddenly passed away. Despite this devastating loss, our founder, Bill Shaffer, persevered and kept the business running in his memory. Our oldest son, Bake, joined the company in 1983 and played a crucial role in our continued success.
Expansion and Growth
The 1980s saw significant growth for our company. We opened four new locations, expanding our services to meet the needs of our customers. We also continued to prioritize quality service, recognizing that our customers deserved the best.
A New Era
In the 1990s, we underwent significant changes, including the acquisition of a bank building that was remodeled into a dry cleaning plant. We also constructed a new laundry operations building alongside it.
Family Involvement
Patricia Shaffer, our founder's daughter-in-law, joined the company after graduating from the University of Arizona with a degree in Sales and Marketing. Her experience working for Fortune 500 companies brought new skills and perspectives to our team.
